![]() Edenville Township and the Wixom Lake Improvement Board recently completed a pilot program to aerially spray evaluation plots on Sanford and Wixom lakes for the purpose of controlling growth of woody trees in the lakebeds. Crews have been busy at Secord Dam. Here are some of the things they've been up to:
The Tittabawassee River is back on course through the Sanford Dam, thanks to work recently completed by Fisher Contracting to construct a berm across the breach channel. This restored 100% of the flow of the Tittabawassee River through the newly constructed weir. Watch the video below for drone footage of the work. This is an important next step in preparing for dam restoration.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Four Lakes Special Assessment District, Delegated Authority on Part 307 Legal Lake Level for the Counties of Midland and Gladwin, Michigan (the “District”), will hold a public hearing at 10:00 a.m., prevailing Eastern Time, at the Swanton Hall, located at 6460 N. Water Road, Edenville MI 48620 on the 23rd day of August, 2022.
Four Lakes Special Assessment District has applied for a grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for dam safety booms and installation. The meeting will provide information on dam safety booms and their installation. The meeting will be conducted by the Delegated Authority and will provide an opportunity for interested persons to express their views on the proposed plan for safety boom installation. There has been a flurry of activity at the Sanford Dam site over the past week keeping us on track for restoration. Continue reading to see photos.
FLTF is closing one of the two gates at Secord Dam on a temporary basis for work on the low-level intake structure. The lake is not being refilled and little change in Secord Lake level is expected. This gate will be closed for periods of time over the next several weeks while stop-logs are installed to enable work to be completed safely. The gate will be returned to its fully opened position after the work. This work is for inspection and the beginning of upgrades for the restoration, which are planned to start later this year. The gate will tentatively close early morning on Wednesday, July 27th.
Property owners are entitled to due process in appealing their Four Lakes lake level assessment under the Inland Lake Level Act, Part 307 of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act. As Four Lakes Task Force (FLTF) resolves logistics and jurisdiction issues, we want property owners to know that FLTF will not object to appeals on the grounds of late filing if the appeal is submitted by August 15th.
