The Smallwood Dam project constitutes a more extensive review process and is defined as a “Major Project." This means that the project requires concurrent federal review (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)) as defined in the state and federal Clean Water Act Section 404 Program Memorandum of Agreement. The reason it is a “Major Project” is because over five acres of wetland will be impacted during construction.
FLTF received the EGLE permit (issued on November 2, 2022) for the Secord Dam project. This means that final construction to restore the dam can take place. Bidding for final construction will be completed this year. FLTF will continue to work with EGLE throughout the construction process to ensure the project is completed per the permit requirements. On October 20, 2022, over 200 attendees, 16 vendors and 11 presenters filed into the Midland Center for the Arts for an all-day event about the path to Four Lakes restoration. What follows is a summary of the symposium.
In the October edition of the "Log Marks" newsletter by the Sanford Area Historical Society, they included a brief story about a trestle that was removed and restored from the Edenville Dam during reconstruction work on the site in 2021.
